What is Big-Game Fishing?

Not surprisingly, Panama is among the locations mentioned in the Wikipedia article. Panama became one of the historical places in the development of the sport of big-game fishing. In my biased opinion, our unique Gulf of Chiriquí lodge places it in one of the world’s most prolific big-game fishing grounds.

Panama is one of the top fishing destinations for both novice and seasoned anglers from around the world. The Zane Grey Reef in Piñas Bay is well known for the quantity of its marlin. However, today’s hot spots in Western Panama, like the Hannibal Bank and Isla Montuosa, are just as well known. With the Gulf of Chiriquís increasing popularity, note that our island lodge is the closest, the most comfortable, and attention to detail operation in Western Panama.

Our tuna fishing is spectacular as we have one of the best yellowfin tuna bites in the world. We consistently find acre-wide tuna boils for chucking topwater lures.

Furthermore, in addition to the black and blue marlin and yellowfin tuna, our crews catch with regularity Pacific Sailfish or ‘Pez Vela,’ large mature dorado (mahi-mahi), and wahoo.
Adding to the offshore experience, Panama’s Gulf of Chiriqui is a paradise for inshore anglers. We have hundreds of miles of coastline, numerous islands, and multiple species. We fish a variety of different methods and practice catch and release for all roosterfish and cubera snapper. No significant marinas or beach towns are near our location. We are the definition of a low pressured fishery.
