Live Bait Fishing
While it’s increasingly common in many parts of the fishing world these days, Panama has a long and proud tradition of live baiting. Our captains are good at it and it is highly productive.
There are two general methods of live baiting here. We slow troll big baits—most commonly bonito—for black and blue marlin, big yellowfin tuna and even cubera snapper and big roosterfish.
We also commonly use live blue runners or goggle eyes, both inshore and offshore. These are great baits for yellowfin tuna, sailfish, and dorado offshore. Inshore, everything eats them—roosterfish, cubera and all manner of snapper, many types of jacks, bluefin trevally, grouper and more.
