There are a lot of different factors that go into how successful you are on a fishing expedition. Your level of expertise, the equipment you use, the time of day, the season, and your location all play a role when you are sport fishing. This is why it’s always a smart idea to fish alongside an experienced local expert who knows all the tips and tricks to ensure a good day out on the water.

Here’s where you can find the best fishing spots in Panama and the easiest ways to access them on your next adventure.

Hannibal Bank

One of the most epic fishing spots in the entire world is Hannibal Bank. This spot is famous for catching Marlin and Tuna, and it’s just 40 miles from our island lodge.

Hannibal Bank is at the southern edge of the Gulf of Chiriquí and attracts tons of fish because of the nutrient-rich waters of the local current. On a typical day out around Hannibal Bank, we start off by catching some Black Skipjacks to use for bait and then slowly troll around the places where Marlin, Tuna, Sailfish, and Dorado commonly swim.

Isla Montuosa

Another one of the best fishing spots in Panama is Isla Montuosa, which is fed by the nutrient-rich waters of the Humboldt Current. This island is also just southeast of our lodge and offers wonderful opportunities for catching various kinds of fish.

Large Yellowfin Tuna, Mullet Snapper, and Grouper live in this area and are often part of our local fishing trips. This is a beautiful island that is rugged and a favorite spot among sport fishermen.

Isla Parida

Our fishing lodge is located right on Isla Parida, which gives our guests quick and easy access to the waters around this island. Isla Parida is an awesome place to catch Roosterfish because of the mangroves that provide excellent underwater habitats for this species.

Wahoo and Cero Mackerel are also common in this area and fun to catch. This is the largest island in the national marine park and a protected ecosystem where you can view many types of wildlife besides just fish.
