Come Fishing in Panama. Guide to Planning Your 2026

2025 has been really good to Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge. We’re super fortunate. 2026 is wide open, in fact, we're nearing capacity. Come see us.

2025 has been really good to Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge. We’re as fortunate as can be. Our fleet of five boats has logged more than 700 boat days of fishing this year in the Gulf of Chiriquí.

Come See Us

Fishing with clients from across the United States and around the world, we’ve caught lots and lots of fish. We’ve fished with new clients and with the many who visit us year after year. We’ve had some banner days, too—wide ass open.

We hosted Sport Fishing Television, the film crew from Two Conchs Sportfishing, and more. We’ve gotten the chance to talk about all that our part of the world on the Saltwater Euphoria Podcast with Captain Ricky Wheeler, the crew from Fire Crown Media, and at trade shows across the hunting and fishing landscape.

Captain Shane Jarvis and our team are hitting the ground again in 2026. We’ll be in Texas in January, in Nashville and Atlanta for the Dallas Safari Club and the Safari Club International Shows. We just donated a trip to fish at the lodge with legendary professional bass fisherman Skeet Reese. That donation was to the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame at their annual banquet in Springfield, Missouri.

We’re having a time. We love catching fish. Also, we really enjoy talking about fishing. We appreciate that so many people from around the world choose to come fish and stay with us.

So, What Does This Have to Do with 2026?

In the past, we’ve used the fishing calendar to help clients coordinate the best time for their trip. And this is still a good approach.

The Gulf of Chiriqui is the home of the tuna frenzy. We’d love to put you in the middle of one.

Our fishery has a longer season than most other locations. The Gulf of Chiriquí also makes accessible an incredible combination of inshore and offshore options.

In a trip of three days fishing, we can hammer the inshore spots—catching cubera and roosterfish—and whack yellowfin and chase marlin in sailfish. Not just in the same trip, but often in the sameday.

We catch yellowfin in every calendar month that we fish. We catch roosterfish and cubera throughout the year as well.

Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge is a great place to visit. It’s also a TERRIBLE place to be a popper.

Sure, there are high seasons for each. Right now, we’re in the midst of one of our two black marlin peaks. Our Instagram feed provides context. Captain Juan, Captain Jhonny, and Captain Carlos are on them.

And yes, May through July are perhaps the peak of tuna frenzy season. We find them throughout the year, but if you wanted the best chance to experience what it’s like to sling a popper into frothing tuna madness, there are a couple times of the year when the chances are even higher than the rest of the year.

Here is a breakdown of peak seasons for some of our most common inshore and offshore targets.

Here is an article that breaks down the best times of the year for certain fisheries. It remains a good resource for trip planning.

But these days we have something else to consider.  Fishing capacity.

2026 Is Almost Full

In 2025, we brought down our fifth boat. That makes five fully outfitted 33’ catamarans—four World Cats and a Freeman. We’ve expanded our guest capacity to 24.

And it’s a good thing we’ve done all of these things. We’re getting close to being full for 2026. Our capacity is especially tight for groups of 12 or more—for folks who want to bring down their team and book the lodge out for themselves.

Three of our five, moored in front of our beach bar.

We’re in talks with Sport Fishing Television to run it back. We had such a good time and the episodes turned out so well that we’re planning an encore this year.

We’ve got another special event or two in the works for 2026, too. Stay tuned.

As we’re working through getting these on the books, we’ve noticed something. Something that is really good. A reflection of the great fishing here and of the experience that our team so consistently provides.

2026 is nearing capacity. We’re getting booked out. The windows of availability are closing.

We love hosting corporate trips, if we have the space.

As we’re out talking with people through digital, social, and, print media, heading to trade shows and conventions, and taking inquiries from folks referred to us by clients who have fished with us, we thought we’d take the chance to send this note.

Thank You. You’ve Made Our Success Possible. Come Fishing.

As we eye the future, we also think back on the evolution of Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge from a single building and a single boat into what we’ve grown into today. We’re thankful. Thankful as can be.

Come See Us

We appreciate the clients and the long-term sponsors who have made it all possible. And that’s what this post is all about. It serves as equal parts thank you and invitation.

As we continue to tell the fishing landscape about our wonderful part of the world, we certainly won’t forget the clients whose continued business has made it all possible.  Come and see us, let’s go fishing.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from your friends in Panama!!!
