Isla Montuosa

Montuosa Island is a tropical wonderland. It produces some of the best fishing you’ll find anywhere.

The Burbuja, a high spot south of Montuosa from which bubbles emanate from the seafloor, is a black marlin and yellowfin hotspot. We frequently encounter schools of tuna here. There are sailfish, dorado, blue marlin and wahoo here too.

Montuosa is uninhabited. Its mountainous relief is covered in rainforest.

The surf crashing into the island is beautiful. There is a stretch of land jutting into the ocean that is covered in coconut palms.

Gulf of Chiriquí

Montuosa is immediately surrounded by rocky shorelines and pinnacles as well. As a result, there can be some really good inshore fishing here too.

Montuosa’s combination of bottom structure with close access to deepwater, offers an incredible variety of fishing opportunities. We fish here quite a bit—and for good reason. It is 38 miles from the lodge.
