April/2017 Panama Fishing Report – April 2017 was another great month here at Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge! We were blessed again with 5 great groups and fished 22 days here at our upscale private island lodge on Isla Paridas located 12 miles off the Pacific coast of Panama in the Gulf of Chriqui! The Yellowfin Tuna action was for sure in full swing all month and we had some real good inshore action as well. We literally caught some monsters this month including Yellowfin Tuna, Roosterfish, Cubera Snapper, Broomtail Grouper, and even a Corvina! Pictures tell the true tale and we got plenty of them to back up our stories this month!!!
Mike, Mike, and Keith all first timers to Panama…direct from New York City…joined us first for 3 days of fishing and man did they get an introduction to the big fish here in Panama! These guys caught some big Yellowfin Tunas with us. Keith got one 180# and Mike got one the same day that went 260#! They all caught and released some nice Roosterfish and a variety of other species. Thanks so much for the business guys!!!
Bill, Tim, and Rick from upstate New York joined us next for seven days of fishing. These guys wanted to try it all and we did! We fished pretty much all the areas around the Gulf of Chriqui here inshore and offshore and counted 12 different species caught! These caught a bunch of fish as they worked hard at casting artificials every chance they had while we were slow trolling live baits or drifting chunks. Bill caught a monster Yellowfin Tuna after a grueling 2 hour battle that went an easy 170 pounds! We had an awesome time with these guys and can’t wait to see them again hopefully next year!
April/2017 Panama Fishing Report con’t – The next group was Heather and Jimmy from Louisiana. These guys should go and buy some lottery tickets cause when they were here they got lucky! We absolutely killed it with these guys! We had one of the best inshore fishing days I have ever had here one day as we caught and released 5 Roosterfish (including a 50 plus pound monster and a double header), a couple of Cubera Snappers (a 45 pound and a 35 pounder), an Ambejack, and monster 20 pound Needlefish! Offshore we got just as lucky! Jimmy caught his first 100 pound plus Yellowfin Tuna on the first day! The following days offshore we slayed the Tunas…Jimmy got a monster 203 pounder and Heather caught a 100 pound Tuna as well! Great trip all around with these guys and really good people!
The next group was the crew from Texas….Art, Tom, Sean, Casey, Barrett, Joe, Will, and Blaine. These guys were all here for young Blaine’s bachelor party. We fished two boats for four days and these guys seemed to have a great time. The bite offshore was a bit slow and the weather was a bit sloppy. These guys did get a couple of Tunas offshore but did much better inshore with the Roosters as Capt. Tatin had the hot hand and did real well with these guys! Best of luck to you Blanie with your new wife and hope to see more of Honky Voodoo fishing team in the future!!!
Last…but not least…were the boys from Jersey. Brian, Tom, Steve, Joe, Joe, Richard, and John. We fished 5 days with these guys and not only did we have a great time we also caught over 15 different species!!! These guys wanted variety and we got lucky in that respect. The bite from the Tunas wasn’t exactly full on…although they did get a 200 pound monster one day…but the fishing for pretty much everything else was great! The last 18 pics of this report are from their trip and as you can see they had a great variety! Special thanks Brain and Joe for organizing the trip and we hope to see you guys back again soon!
Enjoy all the pics…
