June and July are always a couple of the best months to fish here in Panama. The beginning of the rainy season brings huge pods of Porpoises, with large schools of Yellowfin Tuna in tow, up into the Gulf of Chiriqui from offshore, herding schools of spawning bait. Many other pelagic species such as Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Dorado, Sailfish, and Wahoo all show up to get in on the feeding frenzy. The inshore fishing really starts to heat up as well. The nearshore seamounts and rocky coastlines near our island really light up with activity as the water cools down and the bait moves in. It’s not uncommon to catch over 10 different species in a day as Roosterfish, Almaco Jack, Cubera Snapper, Mexican Barred Pargo, Blue Trevally, African Pompano, and more are all regular catches these months.
June/July of 2024 was no exception as our clients had some EPIC catches and experienced some real ‘National Geographic’ type scenes offshore here in the Gulf of Chiriquí, Panama fishing from our island lodge 10 miles south off the Pacific coast! Even though we had some unusually high water temperatures this year, due to the El Nino effect, the fishing was very good for everything except Marlin. We did manage to release a few but they haven’t really shown up in numbers yet this year as they usually do.
A HUGE “Thank you!!!” to all of you who choose to fish with us! We really appreciate the business and hope that you had an awesome experience here with us on the island.
Please check out all the photos of some of the great catches, and good times, we had here in June and July of 2024…
