Feb/2017 Panama Fishing Report – We hosted two great groups and fished just eight days in February 2017 here at Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge. Even though we only fished eight days we still had some great action offshore and inshore with 15 different species caught (17 including bait)….and all are pictured here in this post!

We are the closest fishing lodge in Panama to the offshore action at Hannibal Bank and Isla Montuosa. A thirty minute boat ride (12 miles) from Boca Chica, and a one hour ride from David’s port of Pedregal, brings you to the largest island in the chain…Isla Paridas.  No big industrial commercial fishing operations, and governmental protection of all billfish are a few of the reasons why fishing Panama is so great.

In addition our island lodge is a place where those who do not want to fish can enjoy and have fun while the anglers chase marlin, tuna, wahoo, grouper and more?

Kirill and Alexi from Russia fished with us for four days and as usual each day was completely different. We started each day offshore trying for a Marlin but we missed a couple of good chances and couldn’t check that species off for them. We did although get a Sailfish for Kirill, a BIG Yellowfin Tuna for Alexi, and a few Dorados. Inshore we had luck with pretty much everything except Roosterfish!

We got a number of species including Blue Trevalle, Jack Crevalle, Horse-eye Jack, Yellow Snapper, and Cubera Snapper….with one Monster Cubera of about 60lbs that we caught and released just a mile from our lodge. We also had some good luck one day with our Hooker Electric reel deep dropping in 900 feet for Snowy Grouper….wait till you try Chef Lee’s grouper franchaise!

Feb/2017 Panama Fishing Report con’t – The next group was Robert, James, Keith, and Janet from Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts. These guys were great sports and switched up between both our boats each day…the T.O.P. Cat and Scandalous to keep thing interesting. Captin Tatin really shined this trip and caught a bunch of great different fish for these guys! James got the Roosterfish he wanted to check off his list, Keith got more than he bargained for at Isla Montuosa with a release of a 500# Black Marlin, Janet had an awesome birthday, and Robert got more species than anybody for the trip!  Thanks so much for the business guys!!! Enjoy all the pics…
